How the bill splitter works
Enter the bill, the number of people, and the tip and tax rates. The calculator adds tip and tax to the bill, then divides the total so the shares add up to the exact amount, down to the cent. Tick the box to round each share up to a whole number if your group prefers round amounts.
A worked example
A $120 bill with a 15% tip is $138. Split between four people, that is $34.50 each. Add 8% tax on top and the total is $147.60, or $36.90 each.
When an equal split is not fair
If people ordered very different amounts, an equal split quietly moves money from one person to another. Use the itemised bill splitter to give each person their own items.

Frequently asked questions
Does the tip include tax?
In this tool the tip and the tax are both calculated on the bill you enter. If your bill already includes tax, set tax to 0.
What if the bill cannot be divided evenly?
The shares add up to the exact total. A cent or two difference goes to the first people in the list.
Is the bill stored?
No. Everything stays in your browser.
