How the income split calculator works
Enter each person's monthly income and the shared costs you want to split (rent, bills, groceries). The calculator shows what each person pays if you split 50/50, and what each pays if you split in proportion to income, with each amount as a percentage of that person's own income.
A worked example
One partner earns 4,200 and the other earns 2,800 a month, and shared costs are 2,500. Splitting 50/50 means 1,250 each, which is about 29.8% of the first income and 44.6% of the second. Splitting by income means 1,500 and 1,000, which is 35.7% of each income.
Which should you use?
If incomes are similar, 50/50 is simple and fair. If they differ, a proportional split means both people give up the same share of their income. Many couples use a mix: shared fixed costs by income, fun spending equal.

Frequently asked questions
Should I use gross or take-home pay?
Take-home pay is more useful, because it is what you actually have to spend.
What counts as a shared cost?
Whatever you both agree: rent, utilities, groceries, internet. Personal spending and gifts usually stay separate.
Does this work for friends or flatmates?
Yes, for two people. Some flatmates also split by income when earnings differ a lot.
Is my income data stored?
No. It stays in your browser and is never sent anywhere.
